About Ballymacahara Farm
Hillside farming, female farmer with 70 breeding ewes.
Some of my values have been passed down generationally like the love for the environment and it’s creatures. Growing up we would feed the fox not shoot it. We recognize that everything is connected and the farmer is one of the caretakers of the land. We would always limit the chemicals etc on our land.
Are there any sustainability-related practices or traditions you’d like to share?
Mostly we waste not want not, we constantly reduce, reuse and recylce everything on the farm in that order.
Is your farm open to hosting tours, workshops, or demonstrative events for the public related to your livestock or wool production?
Yes, I am a third generation farmer and environmental consultant. My husband and I farm on the hillside and have 70odd sheep. We lamb in Jan/Feb and shear in May/June
Do you currently sell your wool commercially, or is it reserved for personal or local use?
Commercially sell currently but open to selling locally
