About Windrush

Tucked into the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains, just above Newtownmountkennedy, our 46-acre family farm is a place where nature sets the pace — and we follow. We believe in farming with nature, not against it. That means using regenerative practices, working gently with the land and seasons, and putting biodiversity and soil health at the heart of everything we do. A quarter of the farm is set aside as a dedicated nature reserve — left entirely to the wild things — and it’s now home to a thriving mix of native plants, trees, birds, and animals.

You might spot deer moving quietly through the gorse, or catch a glimpse of a rabbit darting across a path. The hedgerows are alive with songbirds, birds of prey wheel overhead, and the meadows hum with life. In the fields, our rare-breed Zwartbles sheep (raised for their beautiful wool) graze contentedly, and native ponies and horses roam nearby. We also grow willow, which we use for natural crafts and workshops throughout the year. Windrush Farm is more than just a working farm — it’s a place where people, animals, and the natural world all have room to breathe, grow, and belong.

Community Engagement

Blending their passion for nature, craft and the land, silversmith & ecologist Sophie and her artist mother Lucy have transformed their beautiful eco-farm, nestled in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains, into a ‘living, learning landscape’, where you’re invited to unplug, recharge and connect with nature through eco-friendly craft workshops and lamb-to-loom farm tours.

Their beginner-friendly workshops in jewelry making, needle felting, natural art and willow weaving combine time to unwind outside in nature with crafting using natural materials gathered and grown on the farm, to create a truly immersive experience. Feel time slow down as Sophie and Lucy guide you in a new craft in their cosy studio, set at the edge of the stunning nature reserve, and you’ll leave relaxed, inspired, and with something unique you have made with your own hands as a keepsake of your wonderful experience.

Visits and workshops must be booked in advance-- not open to public without appointment!

Wool Production

We sell raw wool to crafters and for use in sustainable gardening (as a mulch) and washed/carded wool to crafters. All of the wool is sustainably processed from our own flock of Zwartbles sheep.

Heritage & Sustainability

We are a regenerative farm and all of our practices are as eco-friendly as possible. Our farm has been in our family for 26 years and is home to three generations. We have a strong ethos of our farm and our business being good for people (by allowing them time in nature and crafting, both proven to be positive for mental health), good for the place (allowing our farm to diversify and be sustainable into the future), and good for the planet (with our strong focus on carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement etc.). And all of our workshops use natural materials gathered and grown on the farm. â€‹â€‹

We are a regenerative farm, and are chemical free - 1/4 of our farm is set aside as a nature reserve, promoting biodiversity and wildlife is a strong focus for us - all of our farming and business practices are as eco-friendly as possible, and all of our workshops use natural materials gathered and grown on the farm, and we source the rest of the materials from local, sustainable suppliers.
